- Mildred Charrington died in an air crash on take-off from Frankfurt. A Sabena Convair CV-240 lost engine power due to fouled spark plugs. It was the third accident of this aircraft in less than a year. She had been on holiday with her sister in Bavaria and they died along with 38 other passengers and four crew. (Find A Grave)
