  1. 1.  Augustus (Cosi) Agelasto was born on 31 Mar 1823 in Tinos, Cyclades Islands, Greece ; died on 08 Jul 1883 in 18 Hyde Park Square, London, England UK; was buried on 14 Jul 1883 in Greek Orthodox Cemetery, West Norwood, London, England UK.

    Notes:

He was secretary to Pandias Ralli, the Greek Consul in London, and his uncle. Augustus had spent time in Constantinople and in London worked in his uncle's business, according to Bishop Catsiyannis. "Little before Pandias' resignation from his duties as Consul General, Augustus went to Constantinople where he married Despina Mathew Ralli."

He was a partner in Sagrandi J & Co, Manchester, with J.P. Sagrandi and the Petrocochino brothers, East India merchants: Eustratius (Emmanuel) (1822-1897) and Dimitrios (Emmanuel) (1820-1887) until it was dissolved 31 Dec 1869. On 1 Jan 1870 the company, now "in the style of" Agelasto & Sagrandi, merchants, commenced operation, with only the two principals as partners. In various forms Agelasto Sagrandi had a Calcutta office--37 Strand Road (1855/6; 1875); 6 Old Court House Street (1860-1862); 37 Strand Road North; and (after 1879) 3 Mission Row; 8 Canning Street (1888). Agelasto & Sagrandi contributed £50 on 31 May 1870 to assist Julia Lloyd whose husband died in Greece (The Times [London], 6 Jun 1870). In 1872, as a partner in Agelasto & Sagrandi, he appeared in court in the matter of Agelasto v. Rehder, a contract dispute over the quality of jute ("Action on a Contract for the Sale of Jute," Manchester Guardian, 10 Jul 1872, p 6; London Standard, 5 July 1872, p. 6 and 6 July 1872, p. 6). Agelasto and another v. Baxter: litigated Queen's Bench, Guildhall, London Standard, 9 December 1892, p. 7. The firm Agelasto & [John Pandely] Sagrandi, as Agelasto and Sagrandi at London and Calcutta and as J. Sagrandi and Co., at Manchester, was dissolved by mutual consent, 1 Jul 1873 (Liverpool Mercury 2 Aug 1873). 1875: 37 Strand Road, Calcutta, India (Agelasto & Sagrandi directory listing).

An Aug. (C.) Agelasto is mentioned as a commercial enterprise in George P. Georgiadis, The St. Ioannis Church of the Chiots in Galata, (Constantinople, 1898), as cited by George Zolotas, History of Chios (Athens, 1928), p 262.

Branch: Aug. (C.) Agelasto identified as belonging to the Saint Tryphon branch in: George P. Georgiadis, The St. Ioannis Church of the Chiots in Galata, (Constantinople, 1898), as cited by George Zolotas, History of Chios (Athens, 1928), p 264

At some time probably worked for Ralli & Agelasto, a company trading in Constantinople, Trebizond, Tabriz and Liverpool, 1837-71, cited in Stanley Chapman, Merchant Enterprise in Britain and Kardases, Diaspora Merchants in the Black Sea.

1850 city directory lists an Agelasto with Ralli & Agelasto, merchants, 3 Lloyd St., Manchester. 1853 directory lists Augustus Agelasto, merchant, residing at Cliffe Cottage, Hr. Broughton, Manchester
