    Marietta J[ohn] Ziffo is buried in the Ziffo tomb, Sisli Greek Orthodox Cemetery, Istanbul, Turkey. If her death year (1825, at the age of 25) is correct, she could be John S. Ziffo´s grandmother, which again implies that his grandfather was also a John. That is a reasonable guess but doesn´t correspond with our TNG entry (George Agelastos).

He stated that his father, Augustus Stephen, "was born on the Isle of Chios in the Kingdom of Turkey [Greece is marked through]."

    Carolyn Agelasto Hughes has identified the photo in the family album of a man, in hat with cigarette, know affectionately as 'uncle Stef,' believed to be Stephen Augustus.

    Member of the Baltic Exchange 1886. Georgiadis records him as of the 'Saint Tryphon' branch of his family.

    "John Agelasto and Stephen Agelasto, church wardens," were with the Greek Minister at Buckingham Palace to give their congratualations on the latter's marriage (The Times [London], 10 Dec 1888). S.A.Agelasto is listed as a churchwarden for Aghia Sophia, 1887 and 1888.

    In 1895 SA Agelasto served on a committee concerning the Alcoy & Gandia Railway (The Times [London], 8 Jan 1895].

From the Rating Valuation lists in the Bucks Record Office it appears that in February 1916 Roughwood Park House was "in a bad state of repair and empty" but by April 1919 the house with 60 acres had been bought by T. A. Agelasto. (Chalfont St Giles History Society). The house and its 60-acre estate appear to have served as an SOE training school in WWll (Station No 42), one of its commanders being Maj. V. E. Blomfield.

    16 January 1916 - "Also to my great delight my Company Commander Captain Algeo has been awarded the Military Cross, also Lt Agelasto who used to command the Company back in May 1915. He is now gone to Serbia. Lt Agelasto I have mentioned before. He rushed up towards Hill naked on May 5th except for waterproof coat and gumboots."
