It is unclear if he was running his father's firm, A Agelasto and Co., which was still in operation in 1910 and while he was at war [A. Agelasto and Co., 78 George St., donations: £15 to aid families affected by the Bolton coal mine disaster (Manchester Guardian, 31 Dec 1910, p 6); £50 to the war relief fund (Manchester Guardian, 8 Sep 1914, p 7); £10 to the Manchester Armenian Relief Fund (Manchester Guardian, 8 Jan 1916, p 1)].

    WWI record: 2nd Lieutenant on 15 Aug 1914, medically discharged after 1 year 10 months service. Joined the 8th (Ardwick) Batt, Manchester Regiment, 42 division, on the outbreak of WWI. He served very briefly in Galipoli, was wounded, and shipped home from Mudros on the Dominion Liner hospital Ship Canada on 24 Aug 1915 having only arrived on 31 Jul 1915. He was vomiting blood. A Military Medical Board at the War Office on 17 Aug 1916 found he was suffering from appendicitis, syphilis and marked flat feet with hammer toes (not examined when he obtained a Commission). His medical discharge noted "trench feet" and that he "still has neurasthealmic symptoms [shell shock];" he was discharged from the Army with wounds in 1916.

    Mr. Emmanuel John Agelasto, Incorporate Accountant, of 20-21, Essex Street, Strand, London, W.C.2, was appointed liquidator of FEODOR Ltd, 15 Mar 1935.

    An Agelasto played football for Kersal A against: Manchester University (Manchester Guardian, 13 Dec 1905, p 11), Heaton Moor A (Manchester Guardian, 5 Jan 1906, p 3), and Bolton 1st (Manchester Guardian, 8 Nov 1905, p 3). The newspaper gives his initial(s) as A.N., A. and J., respectively. All are probably typos, and the athlete is either Emmanuel John Agelasto after he finished Charterhouse or Augustus Stephen after Harrow School.

    "A good deal of interest has been taken in the announcement by Messrs A Agelasto and Co., shippers of [Manchester], that their business has been transferred to Messrs. Beith Stevenson and Co., Ltd." in Frederick W. Tattersall, "Lancashire Cotton; Position of the Industry" (The Times of India, 25 Apr 1916).

    According to Ian McCulloch, Senior Partner of Bircham Dyson Bell LLP, which handled the estate, he was also known as John Jefferson Ashton.

    Some documents list him as Emmanuel Jonathan

    Although the WWI medal card lists the name as "Emanuel Jonathan" and Charterhouse as "Emanuel John" his marriage certificate and daughter’s birth certificate double the ‘m’.
