18 Nov 1840: John P. Negroponte, 32, married, born Chios, arrived Syros 1824, merchant, swore allegiance to the Greek government at the town hall, Ermoupolis. Unknown to Argenti. This is the only information we have on this man.
John Negroponte sailed from New York to Liverpool aboard the Scotia (New York Daily Tribune 3 Jul 1863 p 2). [without more detail this could apply to several Johns on our tree]
1815 Vienna city directory lists Giani Negroponte under Negroponte und Georguffopulo.
