He was a partner in Petrocochino Brothers, from at least 1897 until it was dissolved 31 Dec 1924, with George Marchetti, Stephen Petrocochino and Alexander Stephen Petrocochino, 57 Palmerston House, Old Broad St., London and 4 Clive St., Calcutta (The London Gazette, 2 Jan 1925). Listed in 1913 as a member of the Baltic Exchange (representing Petrocochino Bros).

Lanark Villas was a street that ran parallel between Maida Vale and Portsdown [now Randolph Avenue], bookended by Stranraer P. (what is now the intersection of Randolph Crescent) and Clifton Road, identified in the 1898 Charles Booth online archive.
- He authored in 1933 what, for genealogical purposes, has become a very important document. Writing to his nephew he says, "Your father [Theodore], Ambrose, Maria and I took from Father's side, had brown eyes and dark hair and were the most intelligent; Alexander, Kosta and Julia had blue eyes and fair hair from the Ralli side."
- John had much affection for his younger brother Ambrose who died in India. He writes: "In his delirium he constantly asked for me and disregarding the terrible up-coutry heat in May, I left Calcutta early next morning with my servant and a hundred-weight of ice. The out-door temperature was 120°, in my artificially cooled compartment 98°. I lay with an ice bag on my head and chest. I arrived at Allalabad at 7 p.m. and a few minutes later heard a boy calling out my name; he handed me a telegram informing me of my dear brother's death and advising me not to continue the long journey. The shock was too much for me. I fainted and was taken in a gharry to a chemist's shop. My Uncle Strati came next day and tooke me back to Calcutta. As I was very weak and covered with boils, I was ordered home early in 1882 and left via Bombay. I went straight to Ralli Bros. office and found there my brother's native servant who came with him from Karachi. He related with tears in his eyes how my brother had suffered on the voyage."
- He was in partnership, until dissolved 31 Dec 1924 with George Marchetti, Stephen Demetrius Petrocochino, Emmanuel Stephen Petrocochino and Alexander Stephen Petrocochino, carrying on business as Merchants, at 57 Palmerston House, Old Broad Street, London, and at Orient House, Granby Row, Manchester, and at No. 4, Clive Street, Calcutta, as Petrocochino Brothers (London Gazette2 Jan 1925).
