Notes |
- era: Genoese domination, Byzantine decline
- Occupation: "Syndicus et procuratore" along with Sevasto Koressi, representing the nobility of Chios—nominally Byzantine dignitaries—he signed the Treaty of Saint Nicholas with Admiral Simon Viniozo, the Republic of Genoa (Convenzioni di Scio C., p. 1263). Being subdued after a lengthy seize of the island, the nobility of Chios on 12 Sep 1346 submitted to Genoese authority in return for being allowed religious freedoms and continued land rights. See Nicole Zurich (in Greek), The Problems of the Genoese Colonization of Chios in the 14th Century and the Formation of a Latinobyzantine Community, p. 168. Source: Prince D. Rodochanakis, Ioustiniani – Chios 1346-1884 (Syros, 1900), p. 53
- Prince Demetrius Rodocanachi in The Giustiniani in Chios, p. 53, describes the arrangement between Genoese admiral Simone Vignoso and the Chiot notables, among which was George Agelastos. It is the famous 'St Nicholas Treaty' (12 September 1346), also described in Argenti´s Libro d´oro (Introduction, p. 4). Interesting is a slight difference between the two descriptions:
--Argenti writes: "the peace treaty was signed by representatives of the Chiot nobility, Agelasto, Argenti, Coressi and Zyvòs (Ziffo)".
--Rodocanachi doesn´t mention any Argenti but only the following names: Ioannis Zyvòs, Constantine Zyvòs ['Zyvòs' is mentioned here as 'Kyvòs', presumably a typo], Michael Coressi, Sebastòs Coressi and George Agelastos. (George Agelastos, 2009)
