    Notes
    • According to his brother John, Ambrose "joined Ralli Bros. and came first to London and Liverpool before going to India. He got engaged to a Miss Ralli of Liverpool and in 1875 left for Bombay. He was soon promoted and sent to Kangaum a Cotton Agency of the Firm, and ultimately was sent to Karachi to open Ralli's new firm. In 1881 he was given 1 1/2 points in the profits of the firm and his share amounted to £3,000 which he never lived to receive. Had he lived he would have soon become a rich man, but in April of that year when ready to come home on leave to get married, he contracted typhoid fever which his doctor, a young inexperienced Army one, mistook for malaria and advised him to leave for Bombay. The steamer was a very small coasting one, no doctor on board, no ice, no punkas and it was 96° in his tiny cabin. But, being a fever case, he was not allowed to be taken on deck at night like all the other passengers. He was unconscious all the way and died two days after his arrival."
