He was the founder, with Stephen (Augustus) Ralli of the new firm of Ralli Brothers established in 1866. [4] This new firm of Ralli Brothers took control of all the previous interests of Ralli Brothers apart from those in Russia which were taken over by the Scaramangas of Scaramanga & Co. The Ralli branches in Liverpool and Manchester took the name Ralli Brothers while the others retained their old names. The name of J.E. Ralli appears on the Manchester Rate Books as owner of Ralli Bros., 11 Bloom St. warehouse, 1886-1887, with associates Nicholas P. Argenti, Stephen Schilizzi; 1872, 27 Peter St., with John Mavrogordato, Nicholas Argenti, Stephen Peter Schilizzi. 1851: John Eustratio Ralli and Nicholas George Paspati directed the Calcutta branch of Ralli Bros. ("The Firm of Ralli Brothers and Other Greek Firms," pp. 69-92). 1871 England census: 33 Gloucester Square, London, household headed by John E Ralli, 41, East India merchant, b. London, wife Minna J., 35, b. Syros, Greece; & 6 servants. Mary Ann Chadwell says on 23 Nov 1862 that he was "in bad health from ague caught in going to India some years ago" Was this malaria? (Christopher Long) John Eustriatio Ralli & Nicholas George Paspati managed Ralli Bros., Calcutta, founded 1851. [5] Probably the Ralli brother referred to as heading the Calcutta office. [6]
