The Archbishop of thyateira officiated, assisted by the Great Archimandrite. burial plot 39287, sq 42, no. 269 on Greek plan, reg. pg. 18174, no. 74558 [7] Cemetery records say 14 Mar 1940, which suggests that the body was held temporarily before arriving a few months later for interment.

George Eumorphopulos was listed as a member of the Baltic Exchange, 1886 (Harlaftis, A History of Greek-owned Shipping, p. 58). Education University College School, London Renowned expert on Chinese antiquities whose vast collection forms the basis of the British Museum collection (sold for £100,000) in 1935 (see press articles). He also had paintings by Matisse, sculptures by Barbara Hepworth and a Persian collection. A room in George Eumorfopoulos's house at 7 Chelsea Embankment, London, 1930s is depicted in a photographic album in the archives of the Oriental Ceramic Society, London, Orientations, v 38, n 8 - Nov/Dec 2007. A letter dated 1 Jan 1902 tells St Sophia's church that Lucas and Mr Eumorfopoulos (George?) have rejoined the firm which will now increase its financial support of the church. He left estate of £104,657 13s 1d. A two-storey museum was added to the back of the house in Chelsea to house his vast collection of Chinese art, nearly all which is now at the British Museum. Founder of the Oriental Ceramic Society (first president from 1921 to his death). "One of the kindest and most generous of men" with a very simple life-style, travelling to work on the underground and whose only indulgence was a "vast plate of iced cream at Sunday lunch". See bust by Dora Gordine (exhib. 1838) now in the V&A, London. Along with George Michel Mavrogordato, Leon Pandely Argenti, and Pandia Peter Rodocanachi he was an executor of the estate of Jenny Mavrogordato (London Gazette 12 May 1931). George Eumorfopoulos was partners with Stratty John Scaramanga, Peter John Scaramanga, Andrew John Scaramanga, and Eustratio Eumorfopoulos [likely his brother Eustratius (Aristides) Eumorfopoulos], as Grain Merchants, at 21 Bishopsgate Street, London; at Marseille and at Rostoff (Don), Russia, as Scaramanga, Eumorfopoulos and Co., until it was dissolved 31 Dec 1901 (London Gazette 28 Jan 1902). Demetrius de Manoussi, George Eumorfopoulos, Stratty John Scaramanga, Peter John Scaramanga, and Andrew John Scaramanga were partners as Scaramanga Manoussi and Co., merchants, at 88 Bishopsgate St, London; Marseilles; Taganrog; and Rostoff (Don) until 15 August 1899 (London Gazette 22 Aug 1899). He arrived 31 May 1933 at Southampton, England on the Homeric sailing from Palma with his brother Nicholas. He arrived 6 Jul 1935 at Southampton, England on the Majestic sailing from New York City. He arrived 4 Jun 1935 at Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on the Empress of Japan sailing from Yokohama, Japan. Liverpool; Elpiniki, 23; sons Eustratius, 21, merchant's clerk; Nicholas, 18, science student; Stamati, 16, scholar; all b. London St. Mary Abbots; & 4 servants. The 1901 England census: 38 Gloucester Square, London, household headed by (correcting for misspelling) Mariora Eumorfopoulos, 60, b. Greece, widow; son Georgios, 17 b. Liverpool; daughters Esmeralda [Smaragda], 36 b. Liverpool; Elpiniki, 33 b. London; sons Nicolas, 28, Secondary School Teacher, b. London; Stamatios, 26, b. London, grain merchant; & 8 servants. Commander of the Order of George I, issued by the King of Greece. He received permission from Buckingham Palace to wear the insignia. G.A. Eumorfopoulos is included in the list: Greek presence in India between 1900-1050 from Thacker's Directory and Greek Church archives. [8] He was co-administrator of his mother's estate. He was co-executor of the estate of his sister Esmeralda.
