  Notes	Knight of the Order of The Saviour. Rémy Benoit says Sophia Zarifi was married to a Miltiade Negroponte... A significant property owner in Romania. Occupation: 1896, banker. Residence: 1861 Syros; 1896, Paris; 1908, 78 avenue Malakoff, Paris 16. Mr. Negroponte, a Constantinople merchant, was aboard the Rethymo when it sank on the Bosphorus (The Times [London], 31 Dec 1874). He was rescued and his £T 4,200 was retrieved. 20 Dec 1861: Odysseus Jn. Negroponte, 29, born Chios, unmarried, merchant, swore allegiance to the Greek government at the town hall, Ermoupolis. Sturdza calls him 'grand proprietaire en Roumanie' O. Negroponte, shipper: 1879 – ran a steamship out of Chios; and ran 3 river boats in 1895. [3] A 1911 discussion in the British House of Commons referred to the Imperial Ottoman Bank group as including Theodore Mavrogordato, Ulysse Negroponte, Georges Zarifi, Georges Coronio, Eustache Eugenidi, Z. Stefanovich, Leonidas Zarifi, Paul Stefanovich Schilizzi and A Vlasto. Ulysse Negroponte, Braila [Romania], owned 600 shares, Societe hellenique anonyme d'assurances generales la Nationale, L'Argus (Paris), 22 Nov 1891, p. 740. U.J. Negropontes, contributed 50 fr. into Braila [Romania] Martinique disaster relief fund. [4] Ulysse Negroponte gave 40,000 francs toward the construction of the Greek Church, rue Bizet, Paris Le Temps [Paris], 11 Nov 1912, p. 3. The family manufactured cardboard at Grozeschti [Iaşi County, Romania], firm est. 1888, employing 100 workers, Revue de la papeterie française et étrangère, 1901, p. 624; 1903, p. 1903. Ulysse Negroponte is among the 15 bankers who signed an agreement with the Ottoman government in Nov 1879 to ensure sufficient capital, A.
