- Her parents gave a ball in her honor in 1900, the year of her debut in society ("Mrs. Negroponte's Ball," Manchester Times, 12 Jan 1900). "Miss Negroponte, who assisted her mother most indefatigably in the duties of introducing, looked most chic in her debutante's lovely gown of white satin, veiled in soft ? net...She wore a pearly necklace and diamond pendant, and carried a lovely bouquet of white carnations and lilies of the valley". The skirt was vandyked in rows of ? satin ribbon, and was finished with three tiny ? of ruched chiffon, while the corsage was trimmed in a like way, and had a smart white satin bow in ? the end of which swathed the back and then fastened in front. One sleeve waqs composed of dainty ? pearl roses.
