GEORGES DE GRAMONT Obituary. New York Times, Mar. 24, 2021:
DE GRAMONT--Georges, passed away at his home outside New York City on March 20, surrounded by his wife of nearly sixty years, Carol, his son, Alex, and his daughter, Nina. Georges was born in Paris, France in 1936. The son of a French diplomat who died fighting as a member of the Free French during World War II, and later the stepson of a Belgian diplomat, Georges lived in many countries as a child. But he came to love the U.S. and adopted it as his home, becoming a U.S. citizen after serving in the U.S. Army. He attended Columbia College, where he studied economics and captained the soccer team, and later received his MBA from Columbia Business School. He spent most of his career as an executive at the Thomas J. Lipton Company. He was a charming man with a large personality, and a gifted athlete who loved history, literature, politics, music, and the visual arts. But having lost his father at an early age, he was dedicated first and foremost to his immediate and extended family. He coached his son's baseball and soccer teams and often traveled to attend the plays, sporting events, book readings, and art exhibitions of his children, brothers, cousins, nephews, nieces, and grandchildren. He loved his family and friends with all his heart. He will in turn be forever loved. | de Gramont, George L. (Gabriel) (I5327)
