photo 2009; approximate location of the Brunswick Buildings, the first purpose-built office block in Britain (1841). "A speculative development, Brunswick Buildings off Castle Street (1840s, now demolished) pioneered a new direction for this 'display': a lavish Italian Renaissance palazzo style redolent of Renaissance merchant princes, which not surprising found great favour in Liverpool's business community." (Lancashire: Liverpool and the South-West, p 68). Pandaleon Contostavlos was officed in the Brunswick Buildings (1871)
