Spring came early this year and my double pair of long underwear were not needed and most of the time a sweater sufficed. I was lucky. Ulaan Baatar is the coldest capital on the planet.

I had the top floor to myself. It has a definite American feel...everything works. The only clue that you're not in the US is the electricty, round plugs, 220v and even the toggles have a non-American feel. The chandelier though seems multi-cultural.

My accommodation. The residence comes with a household staff of three for which 5% of an ambassador's salary is earmarked. This includes laundry, food, transportation (I guess that's another account but you get the drift), and in any case for the visitor -- me --is is a very good use of taxpayer's money.
