- "The elegant classical chamber mausoleum (TQ 3272 32/1111) of John S. Schilizzi (1805-1892), whose family was said to be the richest Chiot family of the time, is situated in the southwest corner of the cemetery. It consists of a tall rectangular chamber with battered sides on a stepped plinth. A projecting cornice and a frieze are placed above the elaborate couble ironwork doors. An inscription on the pediment gives the date of the building's erection: 1 June 1879." It was listed by English Heritage in 1981.

- Founders of the Greek Orthodox Cemetery at West Norwood included John Stephen Schilizzi, Eustracio Ralli, Antonio Ralli [likely Antonios (Alexander) Ralli] and Alexander Constantine Ionides. Donated a mosaic to decorate the conch of the main apse of St Sophia's church in Bayswater, London. Calapodis lists Schilizzi, Antonios Ralli and Eustratios Ralli. [10]
- His family is said to have been the richest Chiot family of the time. A portrait of him is in the Koraïs collection in Chios. He and his brother Zannis were educated at the Academy of Chios.
- Captured by the Turks in 1822, he was kept on board Admiral Karoli Pasha's ship for 11 months. His family paid his ranson of 500 drachma through the Russian embassy in Constantinople. He then began a business in Livorno.
- He, along with Alexander Vlasto and the Ralli Brothers funded an essay "Interpretation of the New Testament, Vol. ll" by Nicholaos M. Damalas, published Athens 1892.
- He was in partnership with James Constantine Negreponte [possibly Jacob (Constantine) Negroponte], John James Negreponte [possibly Jacques (Jacob) Negroponte] and Leonidas Vernudachi (all three who retired on 31 Mar 1861), John Sten. Schilizzi, Eml. Halduvachi, Paul Stefanovich Schilizzi, Paul John Schilizzi, Michele P. Mavrogordato, Giovanni Vafiadacchi, Z. Stef. Schilizzi, Demetrius J. Paspali, Ambo. M. Cappari, Jean F. Paspatti, A. Z. Caridia, M. F. Paspatti, D. Stef. Schilizzi, and N. P. Caridia. The firms operated as merchants, at London, Manchester, and Calcutta, under the firm of Schilizzi and Co.; at Leghorn, under the firm of Schilizzi and Vafiadacchi; at Constantinople, under the firm of Z. Stefanovich and Co.; at Taganrog, under the firm of A. M. Cappari; and at Rostoff, under the firm of John F. Paspatti (London Gazette 27 Dec 1861).
- He was among the partners in business as Merchants, at London, Manchester, and Calcutta, under the firm of Schilizzi and Co., at Leghorn under the firm of Schilizzi and Vafiadacchi, at Castellamare under the firm of Paul Stefanovich Schilizzi, at Constantinople under the firm of Z. Stefanovich and Co., and at Taganrog and Rostoff-on-the-Don under the firm of John F. Paspatti, until dissolved 31 March 1866. - John S. Schilizzi was listed as a member of the Baltic Exchange, 1886 (Harlaftis, A History of Greek-owned Shipping, p. 58). John Schilizzi and John S. Schilizzi and Paul S. Schilizzi, 37 Finsbury Circus, London, are listed among the 96 Greek members of the Baltic Exchange 1860-69.
