    • New Orleans city directory lists: 1861, Pericles Paul Negroponte (Covas & Negroponte) 38 Carondelet, d. 17 St. Louis; n. Levee. Cited in The Times [London] 14 Jul 1862. [Stamati Covas, b. Greece 1822 was a merchant, reported in the 1860 Louisiana Census and the US 1860 Census with his wife Ellen, b 1834, New Orleans.] "Covas and Negroponte" submitted voucher 'clap8-160-23, order 598-cotton' which was later retained in the 'Confederate Citizens File' held by the U.S. National Archives, representing a voucher that shows goods furnished or services rendered by private citizens and firms to the Confederate government 1861-1865. [The 1861 New Orleans firm Negroponte & Agelasto, commission merchants involved John P. Negroponte, his third cousin, once removed].

Agelesti (sic), both with the firm Negroponte & Agelastl (sic) were among the more than thirty merchants, "citizens of New Orleans and inhabitants of Louisiana," who signed an open letter written under the seal of the City of New Orleans to Dr. John E. E. Ealino in The Charleston Mercury 19 Jan 1860, p 2, praising the physician's skills as his former patients and welcoming him as a winter resident of New Orleans.

    Photo 2009. Pericles P. Negroponte lived at 5 Wellesley Terrace, Liverpool, England, with his sons Paul and Pandia in 1871. The 1871 census shows odd-and-even numbers for Wellesley Terrace and only even numbers for Wellesley Road. The latter exists today; the other street appears to have been renamed Back Wellesley Road and sometimes referred to as Wellesley Terrace.
